Job Description
The Project Engineer Process reports to the Team Lead, Project Management and supports Lead Project Managers (PM) by leading technical activities of assigned projects through design, engineering, and execution for the Pascagoula Refinery.
During design, the Project Engineer leads development of project design basis, preparation & review of design deliverables and technical specifications by Chevron or Engineering companies for work package generation.
The project engineer process will coordinate and lead phase 2 deliverables until the project is facilitated through a gate phase 2 process. The Project Process Engineer, through partnership with the PM, is responsible for delivery of a project meeting technical objectives, with engaged stakeholders, customers and partner teams throughout.
In the Capital Projects organization, the Engineer is typically assigned to multiple projects concurrently with total installed cost in the range of $2MM to $75MM.
The Engineer assists the PM in providing overall leadership and effective communication to the diverse project team, focusing on providing technical work direction to the EP contractor’s multi-discipline personnel, or direct completion of Company-supported tasks as needed.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:
● Support the streamlining of process engineering deliverables and provide technical guidance to the contractors.
● Interface with various refinery groups, SMEs, andcontractors to resolve issues/challenges.
● Provides support for PSM project portfolio; this may include, but is not limited to, alternativeselections, hazard reviews, scoping, equipment specification and purchases, implementation and project close out activities.
● Participate in process hazard analysis such as HAZOP-LOPA, “what -if”, or Process Safety Risk Reduction (PSRR).
● Self perform, provide direction, and/or support: Process modeling and simulations, relief system design including overpressure protection software (i.e. Process Safety PressureProtection Manager– PSPPM), developing PFD's, P&IDs, heat and material balances, and process design basis.
● Reviews process piping / equipment overpressure scenarios, calculations and proposed alternatives provided by projectteam(s).
● The process engineer will support the project manager and assist with communications to refinery leadership as needed.
● Networks with subject matter experts in other facilities to leverage shared expertise.
● Provides requested technical advice and recommendations to project teams within the required time frames.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
● A Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering. Would accept other discipline with similar background qualifications (with process or relief experience for EPC/refinery)
● A minimum of 3 years of related process engineering experience in the chemical, petrochemical, refining, or power industries: this may have been obtained through operation support engineering assignments or process design work for capital projects.
● Basic understanding of how equipment functions in the field and overall plant operation.
● Good written and oral communication skills, strong ability to work with refinery groups and cross functional teams, able to communicate technical ideas to a wide range of groups within refinery.
● Ability to work effectively with minimal direct supervision.
● Proven ability to handle multiple activities simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications:
● Experience with PRO/II and ProMax process simulation software
● Experience with Siemens PS Pressure Protection Manager (PS PPM) software or iPRSM
● Experience with Visual Flow ModelingExperience working on relief system calculations
