1, Amos Bursary UCL Scholarship

The Amos Bursary UCL Scholarship aims to enable and encourage UK male students with family connections to Africa or the Caribbean, to pursue their undergraduate study at UCL. 5 awards are available.


Key information

Value: £1,000 (per year for duration of programme)

Available to: Prospective Students

Selection criteria: Academic merit

Eligible fee status: UK

Eligible programmes: All undergraduate programmes

Additional eligibility criteria: Be male and have family connections to Africa or the Caribbean.

Eligibility

Applicants should:

> Hold UK fee status;

> Be prospective male students who have family connections to Africa or the Carribbean and are intending to pursue their undergraduate studies at UCL;

> Hold an offer of admission to UCL to study a full-time undergraduate degree for the next intake.


Value, benefits, and duration

The scholarship is worth £1,000 per year for the duration of the undergraduate programme at UCL, subject to satisfactory academic progress.


Selection

The award is made on the basis of applicants’ background and academic potential.

Awards will only be made to students who have registered to study at UCL. Successful applicants will be contacted after the start of term with information about their payments.


2, Denys Holland Scholarship

Denys Holland Scholarship aims to support undergraduate students who without financial help, would be unable to study at UCL.


Key information

Value: £9,000 (per year for three years)

Available to: Prospective Students

Selection criteria: Financial Need

Eligible fee status: UK, Overseas

Eligible programmes: All undergraduate

Additional eligibility criteria: Able to demonstrate broad interests and intend to be actively involved in, and contribute to, the life of the university

Deadline: 11.59pm BST, Friday 21 July 2024


Eligibility

Applicants should:

> Hold an offer of admission to UCL for full-time undergraduate study commencing in September 2023, in any department;

> Be in financial need;

> Be able to demonstrate that they have broad interests and intend to be actively involved in and contribute to the life of the university.


Value, benefits, and duration

The scholarship is worth £9,000 per year for three years, subject to satisfactory academic progress.


Selection

The scholarship is awarded on the basis of financial need, subject to applicants demonstrating their intention to play a full part in extracurricular activities at UCL and the Students Union.


How to apply

The deadline for applications is: 11.59pm BST, Friday 21 July 2024

Applicants will be required to detail their current outside interests and indicate areas of non academic activity which they would hope to pursue while a student. They will also have to provide information on their financial circumstances and other sources of income being sought to fund their studies.

Results

The Denys Holland Scholarship Committee meets in late-August, and successful candidates can expect to be notified by email in mid-September.


3, UCL Global Undergraduate Scholarship

The UCL Global Undergraduate Scholarship aims to enable and encourage international students from low income backgrounds to pursue full-time Undergraduate degree studies at UCL.


Key information

Value: 10 awards of full tuition fees and maintenance allowance, and 20 awards of full tuition fees 

Available to: Prospective students

Selection criteria: Financial need

Eligible fee status: Overseas

Eligible programmes: All Undergraduate degrees

Deadline: 5pm BST, Monday 24 April 2024


Eligibility

Candidates can be from any country outside the UK but must fulfill all of the following criteria:

> Be eligible to pay the overseas fee rate;

> Come from a low income background*;

> AND have submitted an admission application for a full-time Undergraduate degree at UCL in 2023/24.

Value, benefits, and duration

> There are up to 30 scholarships available in 2024/25.

> 10 awards of full tuition fees & maintenance allowance; 20 awards of full tuition fees.

> The scholarship is tenable for the normal duration of the programme.

> Scholarship recipients are obliged to inform the UCL Student Funding Office immediately of any other funding they are awarded towards their UCL Undergraduate degree studies, before or subsequent to the UCL Global Undergraduate Scholarship being awarded.


Selection

The scholarship is awarded on the basis of financial need.


How to apply

You need to have submitted an admission application to UCL in order to apply for the scholarship.

While you do not need to have received an offer of admission to be eligible for this scholarship, you will need to have had your fee status confirmed by UCL Admissions. For some students this happens shortly after you apply to the university, but for many this will not happen until just before an offer of admission is made. If you are unable to access the scholarship application form, you may need to wait until UCL has decided whether to make you an admission offer.  Please ensure you apply for admission well before the scholarship deadline


Instructions for accessing the online scholarship application form:

1:  Login to Portico with your normal details.

2: Click on the ‘View’ button for the ‘Active Application’ that you wish to apply for funding for.

3: In the application screen, click on the ‘Funding’ in the menu at the top of the page.

4: You are now on the funding page. To find out which funds you are eligible to apply for click 'Check and apply' under ‘Funds Available’.Click on the scholarship name of the scheme that you wish to apply for.

NB. For each programme that you wish to apply funding for, you will need to submit a separate scholarship application form.

The deadline for applications to this scholarship will be at 5pm BST, Monday 24 April 2024.


Results

Successful candidates for 2023/24 will be notified by early June 2024


4: UCL Hong Kong Alumni Scholarships

UCL Hong Kong Alumni Scholarships are available for undergraduate study at UCL. Each year, one scholarship will be available and named after the foundation that has funded it for that year.


Key information

Value: £20,000 per year (for a maximum of four years)

Available to: Prospective students

Selection criteria: Financial need and academic excellence

Eligible fee status: Overseas

Eligible programmes: All undergraduate programmes (except MBBS)

Deadline:  5pm HKT on Friday 26 May 2024


Eligibility

Applicants should:

> Be holders of Hong Kong Permanent Identity Cards or Chinese citizens who have received full-time education in Hong Kong and/or China for no less than five of the eight years

immediately prior to the start of study at UCL;

> Have applied for admission through UCAS for full-time undergraduate degree studies at UCL (funding will not be available for the 6 year course in medicine leading to the MBBS BSc degree);

> NOT be attending any schools in the UK or currently enrolled at UCL;

> Be liable to pay tuition fees at the rate for overseas students;

> Be in financial need and unable to fund their planned studies at UCL without financial help;

> NOT be accepted for any other scholarships or bursaries;

> Be willing to volunteer at activities of UCL, UCL Hong Kong Club and/or UCL Scholarship Hong Kong Foundation during and after their studies at UCL.


Value, benefits, and duration

One scholarship is available annually for undergraduate study at UCL. The scholarship will be named after the foundation that has funded it for that year - the Professor Denys Holland and Cowan Cheung Scholarship, the Vinson and Cissy Chu Charitable Foundation Scholarship or the UCL Hong Kong Alumni Scholarship.

The scholarship will provide up to £20,000 per year toward tuition fees for a maximum of four years (funding will not be available for the 6-year course in medicine leading to the MBBS BSc);

Applicants who are not awarded the scholarship may still be eligible for consideration for prizes, including the Professor Sir Charles Kao Prize and the KK Chu Memorial Prize.

Annual renewal of the scholarship is subject to satisfactory progress equivalent to upper second class honours throughout the programme. A report of unsatisfactory progress may result in termination of funding or clawback.


Selection

The criteria for awarding the scholarship are academic excellence, financial need and any other criteria deemed appropriate or relevant. You will be required to demonstrate that you meet these conditions.

Subject to parents' consent, shortlisted applicants will then be invited by the UCL Scholarship Hong Kong Foundation Limited ("the Foundation") to submit supporting financial documents such as parents' bank statements for the last six months (or bank letter confirming deposits), parents’ tax assessments and documentary evidence concerning ownership/tenancy of the home, and any mortgages, loans and credit card debts etc., as well as evidence of bursaries and scholarships received whilst at school.

Interviews will be held in Hong Kong (normally in July/August) and applicants invited for interview will be required to present themselves for interview in Hong Kong at applicants' own expense


How to apply

The deadline for the applications is: 5pm HKT on Friday 26 May 2024.

Applicants must submit a completed application form, family financial resources summary spreadsheet  AND arrange for an academic referee to complete the reference form. 

It may be expedient to review the family financial resources spreadsheet in the first instance to ascertain if the application will be worthwhile due to a comfortable surplus or too large a deficit.

Applicants must provide a valid UCL Student Number for applications to be considered valid.

Results

Candidates will be shortlisted in July. Interviews will be held in Hong Kong normally in July/August.

The scholarship will be awarded on the recommendation of a selection panel appointed by the Foundation. The successful candidate will be notified as soon as possible once a decision has been made. 


5: The Tamer Scholarship

The Tamer Scholarship is to enable a student from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia or a national of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia currently based in another country to pursue BA Media at UCL.


Key information

Value: approx £53,000 (per year)

Available to: Prospective students

Selection criteria: Financial need

Eligible fee status: Overseas

Eligible programmes: BA Media 

Deadline: 5pm BST, Monday 24 April 2024


Eligibility

Eligible candidates must:

> Nationals of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia; 

> Be eligible to pay the overseas fee rate;

> Come from a low income background;

> AND have submitted an admission application for a full-time BA Media programme at UCL in 2023/24. 


Value, benefits, and duration

The award provides approximately £53,000 per year for a three year BA Media programme and is subject to satisfactory academic progress. The award will be applied to cover tuition fees first and the rest will be paid as maintenance allowance.

One award is available for 2024/25.


Selection

The criterion for awarding the scholarship is financial need and you will need to demonstrate this in the application.


How to apply

You can apply for the Tamer Scholarship through the UCL Global Undergraduate Scholarship scheme.

Results

The Tamer Scholarship will be awarded by recommendation by a panel composed of UCL staff. The successful candidates will be notified by 9 June 2023. 


6: Telles Scholarship

We are now accepting applications for the Telles Scholarship. In collaboration with the Telles Foundation, UCL is pleased to offer a scholarship that removes financial barriers for talented Brazilian students to access a world-class education at UCL's Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering (EEE).

Funding

You'll be provided with funding to cover the costs of completing your degree and help you fully engage with your studies. The scholarship consists of the following funding:

> Full tuition fees for the UPC and BEng*

> Living costs, £20,000 per year

> Travel costs, £1,500 per year

> Equipment costs, £1,500 in your first year

> Visa and NHS surcharge costs


Dedicated pastoral support

You'll be supported throughout your studies by a dedicated Telles Scholars Tutor - an academic from the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering.

They will meet with you as a group every term to discuss progress, troubleshoot problems and offer guidance.


Route

1-year Undergraduate Preparatory Certificate (UPC) - starting September 2023

Designed specifically to prepare international students for a UCL undergraduate degree.

This intensive one-year foundation course is taught on our central London campus.

Experienced UCL teachers will support you to develop your academic skills, English and subject knowledge so you can progress to your degree programme.


3-year Electronic and Electrical Engineering (EEE) BEng*

Electronic and electrical engineers invent and create the technology that typifies today's high-tech society, from devices and systems that monitor our health and well-being, to global data networks, driverless cars and renewable energy.

The EEE BEng gives you a broad education in the engineering, mathematics, physics and computer science underpinning these technologies, whilst at the same time giving you the skills needed to put your theoretical understanding into practice.

*To progress from the UPC year to the Electronic and Electrical Engineering degree and maintain scholarship funding, scholars must obtain an award of UPCSE with an overall mark of 70%, with 76% in Maths and 70% in Physics.

7: UPC Progression Scholarships

The UCL UPC Progression Scholarships aim to encourage UPCSE and UPCH students to continue to undergraduate study at UCL.


Key information

Value: £5,000 (per year, for the duration of the undergraduate programme)

Available to: Students enrolled on UCL's UPCSE (Preparatory Certificate for Science and Engineering) or UPCH (Preparatory Certificate for Humanities and Social Sciences) programme

Selection criteria: Academic merit

Eligible fee status: All

Eligible programmes: All full-time undergraduate programmes 

Additional eligibility criteria: Annual renewal of the scholarships is based on satisfactory progress of the scholars who are expected to maintain an academic standard equivalent to at least an upper second-class honours (2:1) throughout the undergraduate programme.

Deadline: There is no application procedure. All UCL UPCSE/UPCH students holding an offer of admission for undergraduate studies at UCL will be considered.


Eligibility

Candidates will be:

> Enrolled on UCL's UPCSE or UPCH programme

> Admitted for undergraduate studies at UCL.


Selection

Scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic performance. The selected scholars will be the UPCSE/UPCH students with the highest academic performance throughout the UPCSE/UPCH programme. Financial circumstances are not taken into account.


How to apply

There is no application procedure. All UCL UPCSE/UPCH students holding an offer of admission for undergraduate studies at UCL will be considered.


Results

The UCL Centre for Languages and International Education will make its recommendation in August, and the successful candidates can expect to be officially notified in September.


8: Fee partnerships Scholarships.

UCL has partnerships with a variety of external funding providers in which the university offers a contribution towards tuition fees


Application

Applications for the awards listed below should be made directly to the external funding body (via the links provided), following their established procedures. Applicants must apply directly to UCL for a place on a programme of study at the same time. Applicants selected for the relevant external awards, who are also offered a place at UCL, will then automatically qualify for the fee contribution.
